Two Parties One Cup…

A great civics lesson played out in Washington these past four months … and no it wasn’t the historical compromise that (temporarily) solved our current budget crisis.

An ominous page has been turned. Politics is now king … the well being of this country and the well being of its citizens are not relevant. Getting re-elected is the most important goal of each and every politician … all else be damned. This includes our global credit status, our economy, and the livelihood of the collective citizenry.

Our two party system is broken … the leaders of our government do not lead … they posture … they pontificate.

Votes … partisanship…political agendas … these things take precedence over common sense. Thanks to the “idiocracy” that our society has devolved into we actually put the power to elect these people directly into the hands of the imbalanced extremists who vote strictly along ideological lines. The polarized right and the polarized left are running our great democracy into the ground.

Us ? We simply sit and take it. Most disenfranchised intellects play the game by going Libertarian. This only perpetuates the insanity and keeps the two dominant (and dysfunctional) parties in power. I for one think it’s time to rid ourselves of political parties all together. We need to start holding our elected officials accountable to make good decisions that serve people over special interest groups.

Until then we will continue the madness of one party in power undoing what the previous party in power tried to accomplish. A futile game of political tug of war ensues where the only person who loses is you, me and the rest of the country. Ridding politician of political labels makes them accountable to all of us and strips them of the protection that is blind partisanship.
